Ganja seized at West Kameng
ITANAGAR, Dec 14: As much as 300 kg of cannabis, commonly known as ganja worth rupees 3 lacs was seized from Gaikot near hanging bridge at Balemu under West Kameng district yesterday evening. Superintendent of police West Kameng district Nupur Prasad informed that 23rd BN of SSB while on a patrolling duty found a bag without any owner. ITANAGAR, Dec 14: The Assam Rifles under Military Civic Action Programme handed over five Solar Street Lights to the villagers of Jongji Havi and three Solar Street Lights to Longsang village of Khimyong Circle, Changlang district in two separate functions on December 10.

National Energy Conservation Day celebrated
ITANAGAR, Dec 14: The National Energy Conservation Day was celebrated at Green Mount School here today.
The function included PowerPoint presentation on the need to conserve energy by SK Shahi, Project Officer, APEDA. Students from VKV Chimpu also presented two working models on energy conservation. Besides students and teachers of Green Mount School and VKV, Chimpu, the function was attended by the Secretary, Green Mount School, Higio Aruni, R. Singh and Asi Linggi, Deputy Directors, APEDA. The programme was anchored by Likha Tatam, Suptt., APEDA.
The function was organized by Arunachal Pradesh Energy Development Agency (APEDA) and was sponsored by the Bureau of Energy Efficiency, Ministry of Power, GOI.
APEDA has been making a continuous effort in creating awareness on energy conservation by holding such functions. Conventional sources of energy such as coal, oil and gas are scarce and exhaustible. Energy prices will rise in the long run to reflect scarcity and high cost of exploration and extraction. Hence, all attempts need to be made expeditiously to ensure the optimal use of all sources of energy, an official release said.

APPDSU appeals SSA teachers to call off stir
ITANAGAR, Dec 14: All Papum Pare District Students’ Union (APPDSU) appealed to the agitating SSA teachers of the state to call off their pen down strike in the larger interest of the student community.

Meanwhile, APPDSU demanded the State Government to stop transfer and posting of those officers, who have been posted in Papum Pare and whose term is not yet over as per the Govt. Service Rule. At the same time, the Union demanded for transfer and posting of all the officers, who are serving in the district more for than 3 years.
Any transfer and posting of the govt. officers should be done as per the guidelines prescribed under govt. service rule and not in the interest any individual/party, APPDSU said in a release.
Society mourns’ social worker’s death
ITANAGAR, Dec 14: Tadar Abu Charitable Society (TACS) had deeply mourned the sudden demise of Tadar Tari, BDO, who died at Naharlagun based hospital on Dec 13 last. He is survived by his wife, three daughters and a son. Born at Lantey Lotey village of Nyapin circle under Kurung Kumey district on July 13, 1970, he joined as BDO in 1991 and was serving as BDO Kimin. He was an active social worker and worked for the cause of the Tadar Abu clan, the society said.
His death is an irreparable loss for the society and the community as a whole, the Society said in a condolence message.

CM advocates for comprehensive financial plan in banking sector
TANAGAR, Dec 14: “We require a comprehensive Financial Plan in every district so that every village and its habitats are included in the manifold of banking services”, Arunachal Pradesh Chief Minister Nabam Tuki said while addressing the bankers in the State Level Bankers’ Committee (SLBC) meeting held here at State Banquet Hall yesterday.
He became the first ever Chief Minister in the state to attend a State Level Bankers Committee meeting convened by the State Bank of India.
While appreciating the efforts made by the banks to cover banking services to every nook and corner of the state, Tuki assured them all possible assistance in the form of road connectivity, housing amenities, electricity and water supply.
The chief minister informed the bankers about the employment avenues being generated by his government and sought their help in realizing it. While referring to various developmental programmes like Mukhya Mantri Paryatan Vikas Yojna, where the educated unemployed youths are being provided transport subsidy to the tune of Rs. 3 lakh, Chief Ministers Agriculture Mechanism Programme, Kisan Credit Card, Chief Minister’s Livelihood Mission, he underscored the role of banking institutions in making these programmes successful.

ITANAGAR, Dec 14: Arunachalee weightlifters continue to shine in the 8th National youth Weightlifting Championship in New Delhi with Sambo Lapung creating another three national records in 69 kg weight category today.
Lapung broke the national record (of snatch 117kg, Clean and Jerk 146 kg total 258 kg) set by K. Lalhanba of Manipur in Youth National Weightlifting Championship in Manipur in 2007 by lifting a record total of 265 kg (Snatch 118 kg + Clean & Jerk 147 kg).
Lapung remained on top after the final attempt to clinch three gold medals.

Addressing the rally Changlang Deputy Commissioner Chanchal Yadav appealed one and all to generate mass awareness on ill effects of drugs abuse. She suggested the villagers to go for alternative crops like Cardamom, vegetable cultivation which can fetch good returns to the farmers.

He further informed that opium cultivation is rampant in five districts of eastern region of the state, including Longding, Tirap, Changlang, Lohit and Anjaw. He asked parents to take proper care of their children so that they do not indulge in opium or any other drugs.
The SP, Tirap, Vikramjit Singh disclosed that, inspite of ban, people continue to cultivate poppy which has been detected through satellite images. He said drug addiction is more fatal than smoking Bidi or Cigarette. The SP asked the people to abstain from opium addiction. Admin declares bandh illegal, seeks cooperation
ITANAGAR, Dec 14: The Capital Complex district magistrate in exercise of power conferred under section 144 CrPC has declared the proposed 36 hours Capital bandh on December 17 as illegal. The capital magistrate also directed the bandh callers to abstain from any act that may affect right, liberty, safety or security of common citizens or that may cause disturbance of the public peace and tranquility or may cause a riot or affray.
SP, Itanagar is also directed to take all necessary preventive steps. If anybody is found to be violating this order, action may be taken against them as per provisions of law, the order said.

ITANAGAR, Dec 14: One Utkarsh Agarwal of New Delhi filed a writ petition (No. 503) with the Supreme Court of India challenging the 24th general conference cum election of AAPSU.
While taking up the writ petition, a SC bench comprising of the Chief Justice, Justice Surinder Singh Nijjar and Justice J Chelameswar, in its order passed on November 23 stated that, “The elections, as scheduled, may be held, but the results should not be declared till next Friday, i.e. 30th November, 2012 or until further orders”.
In its next hearing on 26th Nov, the same Bench stated, “….The interim relief granted on 23rd November will continue till further orders.”

Reacting to the SC order, the outgoing AAPSU president Takam Tatung has accused the State govt of maintaining “double standard” and playing “politics” with the union. While stating that the he had received the SC order just Wednesday, Tatung flayed the govt for not informing AAPSU and acting upon it despite the fact that the Chief Secretary’s office had received the FAX copy of the order on Nov 24, 26 and 29 last. “Was the PIL filed on the behest of the state govt?”, he queried.

This journey is full of visual delight and touch of history. After 10 km is Simong

Air pollution in Asia
India’s Centre for Science and Environment (CSE) has expressed deep shock at the findings of the new Global Burden of Disease (GBD) count, a global initiative involving the World Health Organization, which says air pollution has become one of the top 10 killers in the world.
According to GBD, 65 per cent of the air pollution deaths occur in Asia and close to quarter of this in India. The GBD tracks deaths and illnesses from all causes across the world. According to it, in South Asia, air pollution is ranked as the sixth most dangerous killer. It is now three places behind indoor air pollution, which is the second highest killer in this region.
The study indicates a shocking increase in global death toll due to outdoor air pollution.
According to the latest tally, air pollution causes 3.2 million deaths worldwide.
This has increased from 800,000, last estimated by GBD in the year 2000 – a whopping
300 per cent increase. In the year 2000, GBD assessments had reported a much smaller
air pollution-

Amongst the top 10 killers in South Asia, GBD ranks air pollution just below blood
pressure, tobacco smoking, indoor air pollution, poor intake of fruits and diabetes.

Liromoba needs attention
Dear Editor,
Through your daily I would like to highlight some of public grievances and lack of management by the concerned authorities in and around LIROMOBA circle. During recent visit to my home town, I was shocked to notice the following unwanted facts ;
1. The daily activity of Liromoba Govt. Hr. Sec. School is beyond explanation. Classes of almost all class had to satisfy with a maximum of 1 or 2 period during the day and as such students remain idle whole day. If asked for reason, the student replies, "NO CLASS TEACHER”, so no class. How long such condition will continue and school will run only in namesake? This is too much and in fact I am ashamed of the carelessness on the part of concern authority and senior citizens of the area.
2. The condition of Mini Stadium of Liromoba is horrible and becomes piggery and
herd although it has Reinforcement Cement Concrete (RCC) wall. One of the reasons
for it is that door/gate locking system of stadium is not maintained properly. Whereas
it is believed that the gallery of the stadium was constructed at the cost of 80
lakhs during 2010 -
3. The drainage system of the Liromoba town is completely neglected due to which
they over-
4. lt is heard that, Liromoba is rich in Electric supply as LIGO -
Therefore, may I request the concerned authorities as well as NGOs if any functioning at Liromoba to look into the above public grievances and do something for early remedy of the same as these are the basic needs of the people. I also would like appeal the Panchayat Leaders and senior citizens of the area to gives emphasizes in such matter for well being of the area and advancement of the people.
